Welcome to the Society of History Writers
The only Substack community dedicated to sharing the history writing of its members to a global readership.
Society of History Writers is a newsletter dedicated to sharing historical research and historical fiction to a global readership. It is a collaborative project, with contributions from a range of individuals showcasing history across time and space. Not limited to academic research or published authors, it aims to provide a platform for every writer at any stage of their career.
History is a broad category, as is historical fiction. We will share articles and fiction pieces from across time and space, amplifying varied voices and eras.
The Society of History Writers is motivated by three key goals:
Enjoyment
Those of us who read and write history (or archaeology, or classics, or any other of the associated disciplines) love it. We just can’t get enough! The Society showcases the latest research presented in creative ways, to bring diverse themes and individuals to those who want to learn more about the people who populated our world before we did.
Publishing Opportunities
It’s no secret that many of us on Substack are either aspiring or already published authors. The Society provides a platform for all writers who long for their work to be seen by a global readership.
Community Building
Connect with other likeminded individuals as we share our love for the past. We support each other on our writing journeys.
Why Subscribe?
The Society is, and always will be, a free publication. By subscribing, you will receive all posts directly to your email or Substack inbox. Posts will include:
Fiction pieces (short stories, flash fiction, novel extracts)
Non fiction articles
Media reviews (books, TV shows, films, documentaries, podcasts)
Subscribers will also have priority consideration for submissions. Click below for more information on submissions.
The Directory is also open for submissions. More information at the link below.
Although there is an option to become a paid member, there are no additional paid member benefits. Any donations will simply contribute to the costs of maintaining the platform.
