Oooh I would love that, actually. The series I’m working on takes place in a power-vacuum setting analogous to the aftermath of that last Great War, and at some point we’re going to visit at least one of the two weakened ancient empires in their post-war collapse/transformation…I will absolutely be picking your brain about this. 💜

Wet nursing contracts are such a pragmatic approach. I hadn't considered domestic labor, particularly childcare, being transactional during this period. Fascinating! Thank you both!

I really love being distracted from my own humdrum writing project with new exciting stuff like Byzantium. I especially like the way the grad students of today are proselytizing about the complexities and incredible richness of historical study in places like Substack.
