Making good use of your time on our west coast, I see. Thanks for this introduction. I'd never heard of John Work before and knew little of B.C.'s origins.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I too am grateful for Ruairí's introductory exploration as I had not spent time before thinking about BC's origins either. Thank you for leaving your kind comment!
Given the crucial role the HBC played in the creation of the nation of Canada, it tends to be rather mythologized in our history; I am pleased to read an account from an outside perspective.
Thank you David. It’s been eye opening for myself - until recently I knew very little of the role it played. It’s a fascinating history, and following the path of Irish members has given me a different perspective than what I’ve been finding in a lot of books which has been really valuable!
Thank you so much Lucy, I really appreciate it. You can find many more stories over at my substack and I’ll be doing more work on the Irish diaspora in early Canada also!

Thank you so much - more to come!

Great article on how the Irish diaspora contributed to the building of other countries. A lot of excavation work Ruairi.

Great. I have been to the eastern part of Canada including Quebec. Dream is to visit Newfoundland area at some point.
